The non-consumable welding electrode is used in TIG welding.
Welding takes place in a gas shield (inert gas).
Thrusted tungsten electrodes (EWTh-2 by AWS classification) consist of a minimum of 97.30 percent tungsten and 1.70 to 2.20 percent thorium.
They are used because of their durability and ease of use. The track increases the quality of the electron emission from the electrode, which improves the arc ignition and allows for a higher current capacity.
Very good ignition and re-ignition properties. They are not suitable for AC welding. They can be replaced by "gray" or "gold" electrodes. Due to the light radioactivity, they require strict compliance with health and safety instructions.
